Using Waxing for Hair Removal on Men
Waxing is a popular method of hair removal. When people think of waxing, though, they
often consider it a woman’s process. However, more and more men are turning to waxing as a method of getting
rid of unwanted hair. Hair removal on the back and chest are the most popular but nowadays a lot of men are
waxing even more areas of the body. It used to be that unwanted hair on a man was relegated to excessive
chest hair and back hair. But today, a lot of men are shaving underarms, legs and even the bikini
area.
Most men used to consider hair removal on the legs, underarms and bikini area only if they were body builders or
swimmers. The lack of hair gave them a more streamlined look and feel, necessary for competition.
Today, though, hairless is in style. While whether or not a man waxes and what areas he waxes will often be
left up to the preferences if their significant other, it is more common nowadays to see men going almost as
hairless as women. Men can be waxed at home but men’s hair is usually different. Unless you are
experienced in waxing, it is often recommended for men to go to an esthetician for waxing, especially when first
starting out.
There are differences for men’s waxing than women’s. First, the hair is coarser and may take specialty
products and extra care. For this reason, men tend to have more problems with skin irritation immediately
following waxing. Bumps and redness may occur but they typically go away after a couple days. Sweating
in the first forty eight hours can exacerbate skin issues that may occur. So, it is advisable to avoid
intense exertion during this period. Soothing creams and witch hazel as an astringent will help.
After forty eight hours, make sure to use a loofah or buffer to exfoliate the skin after bathing. This
will help clean the pores and prevent clogging which may lead to ingrown hairs. Moisturizing the skin will
also help with subsequent waxing sessions by making the skin softer. Keep in mind that the more you wax, the
easier it will become. Hair will grow back finer and sparser.
Professional hair removal with an esthetician is typically more expensive and takes longer. This is
because of the mere fact that most men have more hair over a larger area. It will take more of the hair
removal specialist’s time and will also take more waxing and cloth strips for hair removal. Make sure when
you choose a spa or salon for hair removal that the esthetician is specifically experienced with hair waxing for
men.
Because of the coarseness of the hair, hair removal using waxing can also be quite painful. However, a
skilled professional can remove the hair quickly and reduce the pain. When the hair grows back, the follicle
will be weaker so the next waxing will be easier to accomplish and will be less uncomfortable. Every time
after that will also get easier. Waxing is rarely pain free but with time it is a lot easier.
Waxing is an ideal solution for men who have unwanted hair. Make sure you research the salon where you
choose to go and know what to expect when waxing. If you want a smoother look that is easy to maintain,
waxing is the perfect way to go.
